Hello! In the summer of 2012, we left Japan so that I could study computational linguistics at the University of Arizona.
After a year of consideration, I've decided to start a blog to catalog my learning process and life here in the Southwest.
I anticipate that the majority of posts that follow will somehow be related to my studies in NLP/computational linguistics, though I have no intention of limiting content to that area alone. Part of my motivation of doing this is simply to have a place to write/journal.
While the more technical entries to come will function as reminders for my own benefit, I hope they will also serve as useful examples for others on a similar path. Taking the tone of tutorials, they will be an exercise in clarifying, reflective practice of my learning process.
An important disclaimer, though: I am not an expert...of anything. I actually only started learning how to program in 2011 in my spare time (when I wasn't spending that time otherwise on climbing...and drinking). I feel like I've made progress, but there will surely be errors and inefficiencies in what I post. You're welcome to point those things out, if you like.
The example code I share here will probably be available at this repo. What else? The majority of this code will likely be written in Python, but I expect to draw on other languages from time to time. I've discovered that I enjoy tinkering with and exploring other languages in an attempt to make sense of their differing paradigms.
As I said, it won't all be (even pseudo) technical stuff. I expect to also write about food, climbing, writers, cats, repairs, Japanese, hikes, ESL, etc.
I guess that's more than enough metawriting...
